Charleston continues to experience strong economic growth, with major investments and new developments shaping the region’s future.

Boeing Expands with $1B Investment
Boeing has announced a $1 billion investment to upgrade its Charleston County facility, creating 500 new jobs over the next five years. This marks the largest single investment in Charleston County’s history.

Economic Growth & Job Creation
In the past year, the Charleston County Economic Development Department has facilitated 1,029 new jobs and $1.28 billion in capital investments across the county. A total of 15 projects were successfully completed in 2024, with Boeing’s expansion leading the way.

New Infrastructure & Development

  • The City of Charleston has broken ground on a $74 million pedestrian/bike bridge connecting West Ashley to downtown.

  • The SC Rural Infrastructure Authority has approved $34 million in grant assistance for 34 projects aimed at public health, environmental improvements, and economic development.

    • Dorchester County & North Charleston Sewer District each received $1.5 million in funding.

New Businesses & Expansions

  • Painting with a Twist opened its third South Carolina studio in Mount Pleasant.

  • Two Charleston spirits companies have partnered to launch a 14,000-square-foot distillery on James Island.

  • MarineMax Charleston, a well-known boat dealer, has started construction on a new showroom on Daniel Island, featuring 10,000 square feet of display space.

Charleston International Airport saw a 1.5% increase in passenger traffic during the 2024 holiday season compared to 2023.

Berkeley County Infrastructure Improvements
The Henry E. Brown Jr. Boulevard Phase 2 project in Goose Creek has reached substantial completion. This $25 million project has improved four miles of roadway, easing congestion and enhancing connectivity.
